Son of a Tailor Review

Cotton T-Shirt

Son of a Tailor is a Danish clothing brand that creates custom-fit clothing from a well-thought-out (that works!) Perfect Fit Algorithm. Their first and most famous piece of clothing is the Cotton T-Shirt made from Supina Cotton.

This is Son of a Tailor Cotton T-Shirt Review.

The Cotton T-Shirt from Son of a Tailor is a well-made, proper-fitting t-shirt that is a must-have in your closet.

Son of a Tailor is a ‘custom fit’ clothing brand from Copenhagen, Denmark. They have developed their unique sizing algorithm called the Perfect Fit Algorithm, which uses machine learning techniques to create each order specifically for the person’s body type.

All you need to know before you order are these 4 things.

  1. Height
  2. Weight
  3. Age
  4. Shoe Size

Having a custom-fit t-shirt (heck, custom-fit anything!) is every tall guy’s dream. And now you can have one in your closet for less than $70.

Tall Paul's Take on the Cotton T-Shirt

There are multiple positive takeaways regarding my overall review of the Cotton T-Shirt from Son of a Tailor. All of them are positive.

Let me start with the product they sell that can fit us tall men.

As you probably have guessed, Son of a Tailor sent me a free t-shirt to review. However, I went through the same ordering process online using their Perfect Fit Algorithm. In less than 3 minutes, I answered all the questions they had for me and hit purchase.

To say I was doubtful of receiving a ‘perfect fitting’ t-shirt in my mail would be one heck of an understatement.

I am 6’7 with broad shoulders but a skinny waist.

I have been told repeatedly that a clothing line had perfect-fitting shirts for me.

I was not going to get my hopes up once again!

Well, guys, when the t-shirt arrived in the mail, I was proven wrong and in an even more glorious way than you can imagine.

The Son of a Tailor algorithm did everything right, from the sleeve length to the cut of my chest and tapered down through my ribs to my waist.

Except it couldn’t wholly grasp my height-to-size ratio and left my shirt 2 inches short. So I contacted the website and told them about the issue with my newly received t-shirt.

Without hesitation, they sent me a 100% off discount code to use, informing me to go through the ordering process again (which they have saved online for you once a purchase is made) and to leave a note for the person tailoring the shirt to add an extra two inches to the length.

One email, 2 minutes online, and a whole new shirt sent my way.

The fit of the second shirt is perfect.

My dimensions are:

Height: 6’7 / 201cm
Weight: 220lbs / 100kg

Buying from a Company that Cares

Son of a Tailor has flipped the supply chain on its proverbial head. Instead of creating clothes at mass and then storing them until sold, SOT purchases specific batches of fabric and then only cuts enough to make each piece of product. When you pair that with the Perfect Fit Algorithm, there is little fabric waste during production.

They have done such a fantastic job at this; they are now a B Certified Corporation.

Certified B Corporations are leaders in the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

Pros

  • High quality
  • Custom fit for your tall body
  • Free remake guarantee
  • World wide free shipping

Cons

  • None

Cotton T-Shirt Fabric & Colours

The cotton used is 100% extra-long staple Supima cotton, which is biodegradable.

You have two options of fabric to choose from when ordering your Cotton T-Shirt; medium-weight cotton & heavy-weight cotton.

SOT has staple colours (black, white, grey, etc.) that I am pretty sure you can find year-round. However, with the change of seasons, I think they switch colour swatches to match the season’s style.

At this moment, as we are transitioning into fall, these are the colours they have available to purchase.

  • White
  • Black
  • Deep Blue
  • Light Grey
  • Dark Grey
  • Antique White
  • Elm
  • Green Obsidian
  • Moroccan Blue
  • Persimmon
  • Rockweed
  • Silver Birch
  • Wine

Medium-Weight Cotton

  • 150 g/m2
  • Very soft feel with a smooth surface structure
  • Airy drape that falls naturally over the chest
  • Slight transparency on white only

Heavy-Weight Cotton

  • 200 g/m2
  • Soft feel with slightly more structure
  • Uniform drape that pronounces the contours of the body less
  • No transparency

How to Take Care of Your Cotton T-Shirt

Taking care of your clothes is even more important than taking the time to find the perfect brand to buy from. Let these instructions help you keep your Cotton T-Shirt a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.

Son of a Tailor's Instructions

Keep deep and light colors separate to avoid color transfer in the wash.

  • Machine wash in a gentle cycle at 40°C/100°F with a mild detergent.
  • Do not use fabric softener.
  • Tumble dry-able but to maximize the lifetime of your product, we recommend air drying.
  • Iron lightly to remove wrinkles.

My instructions for Tall Men

I like all that SOT has to say in their care guide. The only thing I would adapt for you is to only stick to the “Cold” wash cycle and never go warmer than that.

Hot water shrinks cotton!

Air drying is also critical. Never put this shirt in the drying machine. Here are some helpful guides to ensuring your t-shirt stays perfect for years and years.

Wearing this shirt with a simple pair of jeans will automatically step up the look of your outfit because of the cut of your shirt.
