Drawstring

It is best to fully pull out your drawstring if it has been pulled out only halfway. Once full out you can attach a safety pin or other tool to one end of the string and then ease it back into the casing and out the other eyelet.

Welcome to our article on how to re-string your joggers.

Maybe the string came out while you were washing your joggers? Or perhaps someone accidentally pulled on the string while you were wearing your joggers to work?

Whatever the reason, your best action is to pull the string out entirely and follow the instructions below.

Follow our instructions below to re-string your joggers. Once you have re-strung them, fold your joggers to put away or throw them on and dress them up to go out.

Using a Safety Pin to Insert a Drawstring

  1. Pull out the drawstring if it’s lost halfway through your joggers. Re-inserting the drawstring is more straightforward than feeding it back through the casing without a tool.
  2. Secure a safety pin to one end of the drawstring. Use a large safety pin, so it’s easier to handle and feed through the casing. Ensure that the safety pin will fit through the casing of your joggers and secure it about 1⁄2 inch (1.3 cm) from the end of the drawstring.
  3. Locate the eyelets, which are the circular openings where your drawstring comes out. Push the safety pin into 1 of the eyelets and pull it through the fabric until it reaches the other eyelet.
  4. Work the casing toward the pin so the drawstring moves through the fabric. Hold the safety pin with one hand and use your other hand to scrunch the fabric casing toward the pin, so it bunches up. Then, hold the safety pin in place with your other hand and pull the bunched-up fabric away with the opposite hand.
  5. Keep scrunching and pulling your joggers’ fabric until the pin is at the end of the casing. Continue to bunch the casing up to the safety pin and pull the fabric away so your safety pin moves through the casing. Repeat this until the safety pin comes out of the other end of the fabric casing.
  6. Remove the safety pin and knot the ends of the drawstring. Pull the drawstring until both ends are equal lengths. Then, remove your safety pin. If you’d like to prevent the drawstring from sliding back into the casing, tie a large knot at each end of the drawstring

How to put String back in Joggers with Safety Pin: Tips

  • When buying safety pins, look for skirt pins, which are larger and sturdier than standard safety pins.
  • Use a paperclip if you don’t have a paper clip
  • Hold the safety pin tight so you don’t lose it inside the joggers.
  • Make the knots larger than the eyelets so the drawstring doesn’t slip back in the casing.

How to put String back in Joggers FAQ

If your drawstring is more than 1/2 the way still in your joggers waist, you can pinch the knot inside the casing and inch-worm it back to the eyelet. Pinch the fabric an inch ahead of the know and pull it back to the knot, then pull the knot forward as you let the fabric loosen.
