How to Measure Inseam on Jeans

Men's Jeans

Before you start measuring the inseam of your jeans you will first need to have a flat spot to work, a pair of your best fitting jeans or slacks on hand and finally a sewing tape. A sewing tape is the measuring tape tailors and seamstresses use because it allows you to get a proper measurement, unlike a carpenter measuring tape.

This is How to Measure Inseam on Jeans: The Men’s Guide.

Fellas, let me say right away, this article will be your saviour when coming to not only finding out how to measure the inseam on a pair of jeans

But it will also help you understand where the inseam is and why it’s so necessary to know this measurement, especially if you are a tall guy or female!

Understanding how to measure the inseam on a pair of shorts, pants or jeans will help you buy a new piece of clothing, if you need to get them tailored or if you decide to get a pair of bespoke jeans made.

What is the Inseam on Jeans?

The inseam on your jeans is the length of the jeans from the crotch to the bottom of the pant leg. In the crotch, you need to find the upside-down ‘V’ connection point of the right and left legs.

How to Measure Inseam on Jeans

When measuring the inseam of your jeans at home, you will want to use the pair of jeans that fit you best.

Secondly, make sure you have a flat surface that is wide enough to cover the entire length of your jeans.

Finally, have a sewing tape (flexible measuring tape) to get these numbers accurately.

Here is the step-by-step process on how to measure the inseam on your jeans:

  1. Lay your jeans down flat on a flat surface
  2. Fold your jeans so that each leg is on top of the other
  3. Lift the top jean leg towards your waist and place them there
    1. Be careful in placing the top pant as not to twist the crotch area
    2. Also, remove any crease’s to get a better measurement
  4. Take a measuring tape and measure starting from the bottom of your pant leg, measuring up to the hem of your crotch
    1. Make sure to measure it all the way down along the seam of the pants

The number you will have after doing this measurement is your inseam.
